Fjallraven Kanken Review

Fjallraven Kanken Review

This bag is very durable, incredibly lightweight, and has its own unique look. But, of course, you could see that or read about that on our website or in the video above. So here’s a more in-depth, personal review written by yours truly:

Things I love about these backpacks:

  • Double zipper! This may sound silly, but I love backpacks with double zippers. I don’t ever close my backpack on the side because it’s annoying to me to have to unzip the whole thing to be able to access something inside. I’d much rather the zippers be at the top of the bag so I can reach in and grab whatever I want without opening up the entire bag.
  • On a related note, when the zippers are completely open, this thing has an incredibly wide opening! I love this for cleaning it out, rearranging things, and looking for inevitable lost items.
  • The name and address label on the inside of my backpack remains blank. I should probably fix that, but until then, I simply love the old-school look of it! I love the old-fashioned look to the entire bag!
  • Like the video mentions (since I’ve never thought to actually weigh my backpack), this bag weighs less than a pound! Compared to some other bags, this is a big deal and goes a long way.
  • Another thing the video mentions is the comfort level of this bag. I wouldn’t write home about the level of comfort, but I will say it’s definitely not as uncomfortable as some backpacks I’ve worn.
  • It is pretty darn forgiving. The water resistant part has saved me on a couple of occasions! I’m not naive in thinking my stuff isn’t going to wear over time, but this bag is going to take awhile to get to that point.

Things I don’t love about these backpacks:

  • Because I’m nursing and ridiculously thirsty the majority of the day, I carry around a water bottle everywhere I go. Sadly, this bag’s outside pockets do not accommodate my typical water bottle.
  • The Mini is a little too mini. (I don’t personally own the Mini.) When packing my son’s backpack for church or trips, I like to include a coloring book and crayons. The main compartment in the Mini Kanken does not fit a normal-sized notebook or paper, so this doesn’t work out for that, and for future, when he’s in school, it also wouldn’t work out too well.
  • Now, to be fair, this could probably relate to most straps that are rarely loosened or tightened, but when I (very rarely) need to adjust my straps, I find it a tad bit difficult to undo the snaps at the top. Although, maybe this is a positive and should be in the other category because that means my son isn’t constantly unbuttoning my backpack straps!

Things that are good to know about these backpacks:

  • Colors available at The Baby Cubby:
  • Limited lifetime warranty!
  • Water resistant and very durable
  • Reflectors in logo as well as front and side pockets
  • And if you’re like me, and had no idea how to pronounce this brand or bag, then the video was extra helpful in enlightening us. Fee y’all raven con kin.

Do I love my Fjallraven Kanken Classic Backpack? Yep, I certainly do!
