The Blanket You Didn’t Know You Needed: Little Unicorn Big Kid Quilts

Everyone has a weak spot for something. For me, it’s blankets. I’m not sure why, but I'm an avid collector of all thinks soft. The problem is, no matter how many I have, I always want more. I love a good baby blanket, but what I love just as much (if not more) are blankets for myself. Whether I’m watching a movie, working from home, or reading a book, I’m going to be using a blanket; they just make everything better.

Those who know me well will definitely remember the green blanket I used all through high school, college, and beyond. My grandmother made the blanket for my dad, but it didn’t really get used much until my older brother found it in high school. Once he moved out, I claimed the blanket as my own. It simultaneously kept you cool and warm, preventing you from getting too hot but ensuring you were warm enough on cold days. I started to use this blanket so much that after years and years of constant use it inevitably fell apart. Tragic, I know.

Soon after the death of the green blanket, I ordered our first Little Unicorn baby quilt. It quickly became my favorite blanket to snuggle my baby in because of how incredibly soft and warm it was, while also being breathable and lightweight. I eventually decided I might as well just get one for myself. I ended up splurging and getting two of their big kid quilts so that my husband could have one as well. After receiving our new quilts, they quickly became the most used items in our home. They looked great as throws in our living room or folded on the end of our daughter’s bed. At the same time, they were the perfect size for snuggling on the couch to watch our favorite movies together.

After receiving our new quilts, we decided to take a spur of the moment trip to visit family. I have always loved to bring blankets along on vacation, especially if it's going to be a long car ride. However, most blankets are just too big and bulky. Fortunately for me, this was not the case with our new big kid quilts. Not only do they fold to a compact size despite how large they are, but they can easily be stored and stowed away in the carrying bag that they come in. This makes them easy to throw in a backpack for a flight or to toss in the car for a long drive.

The more we used and washed our Little Unicorn quilts, the softer and softer they became while still remaining durable and strong. With four layers of material, they were the best at keeping us warm on chilly fall evenings while remaining breathable and cool for use in the summer months (much like my beloved green blanket that my grandmother had made.) Whether you travel a lot or stay home and snuggle up reading stories with your kiddos, Little Unicorn quilts are just the thing that you didn’t know you needed. And if you collect blankets like me, you might notice that once you have one, you won’t be using anything else.
