Adventure Mom: 3 Family-Friendly Travel Destinations To Explore This Winter

Winter travel can be tricky, but it can also be rewarding! Often times, traveling in the winter means less traffic, slimmer crowds, and tons of snowy fun (if that's your thing). You'll want to make sure your destination has plenty of activities and options for your whole family since winter recreation can be challenging in some locations.

Suncadia Resort

The wild west was aptly named for its unfiltered wilderness, jaw-dropping beauty, and untamed culture. Washington State may not be home to the world's roughest, toughest outlaws in the Western U.S., but it is home to one resort that you and your family will never want to leave--Suncadia.As you head into the mountains of central Washington state, you'll be welcomed by a little historic town named Cle Elum. This town is home to less than 2,000 residents, and Suncadia Resort itself, and offers endless opportunity for outdoor recreation. They cater to families every season of the year, but winter is definitely a special time of year at Suncadia. The resort lives and breathes the holiday season with a variety of events, including a holiday bazaar and breakfast with Santa! Providing skiing, snow tubing, snowshoeing and horse-drawn carriage rides, Suncadia Resort is the ultimate winter family destination!

Joshua Tree National Park

Where the Mojave and Colorado Deserts collide is where you'll find Joshua Tree National Park. Located just one hundred and twenty miles from Disneyland, this desert oasis is the perfect winter vacation spot if snow just isn't your thing. Within the park, you'll find a gorgeous desert landscape, and thousands of the very distinct joshua tree. Backpack through the park or take a day trip on your way to Disneyland. Either way, you're sure to see some of the greatest geological formations of all time! And, as a bonus, you'll experience none of the typical sweltering temps during the winter months, but you'll be plenty warm in the 70-degree weather! It's the perfect weather for hiking, camping and rock climbing in the park. Head out on your own or take a guided trip--both options will not disappoint!

Whitefish, Montana

The gateway to Glacier National Park and all things winter recreation is Whitefish, Montana. This mountainous town is home to pristine lakes, prime skiing, and plenty of shops and restaurants! Whitefish lies directly in the heart of the great Rocky Mountains, and is known for its winter paradise.Families in particular love the resorts and quaint downtown that Whitefish offers. There is plenty to do for all ages! Whether you're ice skating at the Stumptown Ice Den, attending a coffee-roasting tour, or strolling through the dozens of one-of-a-kind shops, everyone in your family is sure to find something they love! Whitefish is for adventurous hearts and mellow souls alike.

These three winter destinations are known for their attractiveness to families and plentiful recreation. They provide an array of options for everyone. So, don't let cabin fever overrun your family this winter! Plan a vacation to fight those winter blues and make memories that will last a lifetime!
