Tell us about the journey of Little Unicorn?

Little Unicorn started with Matt’s big idea for a new brand. He hired four design interns for the summer, and we all worked hard to create a brand that resonated with our values and vision. The test to decide if it could ‘work’ was the ABC Kids trade show in Las Vegas in September 2014. If we were well received there, we would keep going. If not, it probably wouldn’t work out. Our location at the show was downstairs in the middle of big baby furniture companies, and no one had ever heard of us, but people noticed. And they stopped to look and ask questions. Then they brought their friends to see too. And it was more successful than we had even dared to hope! Since then we’ve been trying to keep up with our growth, and to continue to create new products that are fresh and exciting and that work.
What has been one of the most satisfying achievements so far?
Getting accounts with big names like Anthropologie, Nordstrom, etc.; and becoming a multi-national/global brand! That really validated what we were doing. Another achievement we are really excited about is getting 45K followers on Instagram! What a great base of customers to support our journey - we love all of you!

What has been one of the most difficult parts of starting and growing Little Unicorn?
I would say getting the designing and production schedule to work well together so we can keep up with demand! We have also worked to develop all aspects of the brand to be consistent with our values and vision.What advice would you give to other parents/moms trying to start their own companies?
Begin with something you love, know well, and truly believe in. If it’s something you believe in and are passionate about, you find a way to get other people excited about it too.What makes your company stand out and what makes your products and brand different?
We haven't followed or tried to mimic what’s already being sold in the marketplace. We truly design what we love. Our muslin baby blanket print designs are hand painted and authentic and our stylish diaper bags are unique for the price point. We wanted something that style-conscious moms would love to use everyday and I believe we have created that!

What have you learned about parenting and family as you’ve started your company?
About half of us here at Little Unicorn have children, and half of us don’t yet. Those of us without experience defer to those who know more about what they’re talking about on functional issues. Overall we’ve learned that when you focus on the family and what they need, our products become a better fit for families. We’ve also learned that there are a lot of very cute babies out there! Our Instagram explodes with new pictures of them everyday.What advice would you give to first time parents?
Snuggle time daily is an absolute must.What’s your favorite quote/saying or lesson you try to remember regularly?
Matt makes sure that we all know that as far as work goes your family or personal life comes first, then your education (if you’re still in school), then your job. If those priorities get mixed up, your time at the office isn’t as efficient or effective. Family matters a lot to us here, and that shows in Matt's expectations for priorities.
