UPPAbaby Mesa Infant Car Seat Review
When it comes to carseats for our babes, we are all looking for something that is safe, easy to install, and comfortable for our little ones. With the UPPAbaby Mesa Car Seat you're strapping babe into a seat that covers all the bases!
The Mesa is designed from birth for babies starting at 4 lbs all the way up to 35 lbs (and 32"), so this thing gives you bang for your buck. It comes with a SMARTSecure system that allows you to install the seat quickly, and is the first of it's kind to feature a tightness indicator and self-retracting latch connectors that take the guesswork out of safely securing the base in any car. It goes from red to green to let you know when it's been connected correctly. In a pinch and can't install the base? No problem! This seat can be strapped in directyly with any seat belt, and even has a color coded path to let you know where to thread the straps.
Another amazing thing about this seat is it's readjustable 5-point harness that doesn't require you to fiddle around with strap heights as baby grows. Another problem with infant car seats is that pesky back seat sunshine, am I right? Well this baby has a nice, tight shade with protection up to 50 SPF so babe's little bod will be shielded from the heat and harm of the sun when you're on the road. It is also top of the line in side impact protection, boasting 4x the safety of the leading infant car seat.
Where this seat falls a little short is in it's compatibility to other strollers or travel systems. Where car seats like the Britax B-Safe 35 or Chicco Keyfit 30 fit with not only their branded strollers but most other strollers with the help of an adapter, the Mesa infant seat only fits into its branded strollers and most models of Baby Jogger strollers with adapters. It's also a heavy seat compared to other infant car seats, which may make it a little less convenient when you want to keep babe in the seat when they're still too little to sit up. However, it should be noted a that a good rule of thumb is that the heavier a car seat is, the safer it is, which means that although that added weight could be an inconvenience it also adds to those high safety ratings.
