Ease of installation is always a must-have for me when selecting a car seat! I like a seamless design that ensures I can quickly and independently secure the seat, without feeling like I’m wrestling to get a tight fit. The Chicco KeyFit 35 is not only easy to install, but is designed to be installed in 3 different ways, ensuring you can get the perfect install no matter what car you have!

Check out our video for a demo on each of these methods, then check out our step by step guide below!

Installation Guide:

With Seat Belt and Base

  1. Place the base on the seat of the car.
  2. Adjust the recline foot adjuster by pressing the button in the center of the base.
  3. Check the bubble level indicator on the side of the base to make sure it is level.
  4. Thread the seat belt through the pathway on the base.
  5. Push down on the base and pull up on the shoulder belt to remove slack.
  6. Slide the belt into the belt lock off. (This is found on the opposite side as the buckle).
  7. Check the base for stability. It should not move more than an inch.

With the Latch System and Base

  1. Follow steps 1-3 above.
  2. Pull the latch release lever and loosen latch straps to the full length.
  3. Attach the latches to the anchor system in the vehicle.
  4. Push base down while pulling up on the latch strap found in the middle of the base.
  5. Roll strap and tuck it away in the storage slot.
  6. Check for stability, making sure that the seat does not move more than an inch.

With the Seat Belt and Car Seat

  1. Place the car seat on the vehicle seat.
  2. Make sure the level line on the side of the car seat is level with the ground.
  3. Thread the seat belt through the seat belt guide on each side of the car seat and buckle into place.
  4. Pull the shoulder strap up and around the back of the seat and thread it through the European belt path.
  5. Push down on the seat, and remove slack from the lap belt.
  6. Pull the shoulder belt out to engage the locking mechanism on the seatbelt.
